SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Three protestors were arrested this morning after they attempted to stop TransCanada's construction of a pipeline through Smith County.

Two of the protestors used two barrels of concrete to seal themselves into the pipeline. The Smith County Sheriff's Department had to remove the barrels using a strap. The protestors were then removed from the pipe and arrested.

A third protester, who was not in the pipe, was arrested at the scene.

Work on the pipeline resumed shortly after the arrests.

The pipeline is designed to eventually connect to TransCanada's larger Keystone XL pipeline, which would transport tar sands oil from Canada's Alberta region to Texas refineries.
