Firefighters battle two-alarm fire on Evansville's west side

Fire investigators are trying to figure out what caused a morning house fire in Evansville.

Authorities are still trying to determine what caused the fire on the 2600 block of Lexington Road in Vanderburgh County. No one was hurt, but firefighters did have to rescue a dog.

Firefighters came on scene at about 7:30 Monday morning to battle the blaze at 2707 Lexington Road.

The homeowners were gone but their pet dog was inside, luckily firefighters managed to rescue him.

When they did the garage and attic above were completely destroyed, and there was heavy smoke and water damage throughout the house.

No nearby houses caught fire, although the fire did threaten the motor home parked next door.

"We had fire in the garage and coming out of the attic on that end of the house," said David Bretz, German Township F.D.

Nicole Niziolek : "Was it hard to put out?"

Bretz: "No, it wasn't hard to put out. We had extension into a motor home that sits right next to it so we could save the house next to it."

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to tap the fire out.
