LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – It didn't take long for the news of the Cards heading to the Sugar Bowl to get around. Some fans even say they are already planning their trip down to New Orleans.
Even before the official announcement fans were already buzzing. "We've already been to the Orange Bowl once, let's take another one for the Cardinals," said Taylor Everett, fan.
Looking back on this year's season, the Louisville loyals are certain the "W" isn't out of reach, as the Cards are set to take on the Florida Gators.
"I'm really excited to have the Cards going back to the BCS game," said Mike Frick, fan. "Florida is going to be a tough opponent, but looking forward to see what Teddy and the group can do."
Others hope, this will be the game that will make sure Coach Charlie Strong stays put. "Our coach won't go anywhere now," said Robert Drake, fan. "He's going to be staying now because of this hopefully, so it's going to be good for us."
By car it will take you about 10 hours to get to the Big Easy and some fans are already ready to hit the road.
"I think I might want to make a trip," said Shameka O'Neal, fan. "I haven't been to New Orleans in sometime so it would great to go back and support the Cards there."
"I'm going to do everything I can to make the trip there," said Everett. "I've been to New Orleans once and it is definitely a fun time."
Others say they can cheer just as loud from home on January 2nd. "We will definitely will be there from the couch and everywhere in the house," said Frick.
As for those rumors about Coach Strong interviewing for other jobs, during a teleconference with the media he said he and his staff have laid a foundation for success, but there is still more work to do. For now all fans can do is hope that Coach Strong will be the one leading the way.
