SALINE CO., IL (WFIE) -

Two people have been died in a traffic accident in Saline County.

According to Illinois State Police, a little after 8:00 p.m. Saturday night, 49-year-old Deana Smith and her passenger, 50-year-old Darryl Smith were driving their SUV southbound on Illinois 145, less than a mile south of Reynolds Cemetery Road, when Deana lost control of her vehicle struck the east guardrail.

Troopers say she then overcorrected her steering and caused the vehicle to go into a spin. The vehicle left the east side of the roadway, struck a culvert, and rolled.

Authorities say this caused Darryl to be ejected from the vehicle. State police say both Deane and Darryl were not wearing their seatbelts.

The Saline County Coroner's Office pronounced Deane dead at the scene. Troopers say Darryl was transported by LifeFlight to St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, where he later died of his injuries.
