VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) -

If you have a small fine at the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library, you can wipe it away with some canned goods.

The food for fines program is under way at all of the EVPL branches.

It allows you to reduce your fine up to $10 by simply donating non-perishable foods.

For each box or canned good you bring, the library will deduct $1 from your fines.

Those items will be donated to the Salvation Army and the Evansville Christian Life Center, to help feed those less fortunate this holiday season.

it makes us feel good that we are partnering with the community, helping those in need and then we are also helping customers who use us frequently, because if they have some fines, all they have to do is drop of an un-used item, and we can get that to people who are in need this year," said Amy Mangold, Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library.

You still have time to reduce your library fines. The program runs until December 16.
