BATON ROUGE – LSU safety Eric Reid has been named to the 2012 AFCA FBS Coaches' All-America Team, the American Football Coaches Association Announced on Wednesday.

Reid, a junior from Geismar, La., is one of eight players from the Southeastern Conference, including six defenders, named to the squad. Reid's selection marks the seventh time in eight years under head coach Les Miles that the Tigers have had a player named to first-team All-America. He's also the 18th player to earn All-America honors under Miles.

Reid started all 12 games at safety for the Tigers helping LSU to a 10-2 overall mark and a current Top 10 national ranking. He's third on the team with 81 tackles to go along with two interceptions and six pass breakups.

As a unit, LSU's defense ranks ninth in the nation in total defense and 11th in scoring defense. The Tigers are also ninth in the country and second in the SEC in interceptions with 18.

The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best — the coaches themselves.
