Famous "Lessons and Carols" to kick off Christmas season

Posted: Updated:
OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

Kentucky Wesleyan College is putting on the "Festival of Lessons and Carols" to start the holiday season in a merry way.

"Festival of Lessons and Carols" is actually an English tradition that dates back to 1880. King's College in Cambridge has been putting on performances every Christmas Eve since 1918 and they're broadcast around the world.

"Festival of Lessons and Carols" is a performance that combines scripture readings about Jesus' birth and carols of the season, but you don't have to wait for Christmas Eve to see this version.

Kentucky Wesleyan singers, chamber singers, and Wesleyan Chorale are putting on 3 performances - Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

The first performance:

Thursday 11/29
7 p.m. at St. Stephen Cathedral in Owensboro

The next two will be:

Friday 11/30 and Saturday 12/1
7 p.m. at Third Baptist Church in Owensboro

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

This is the 2nd year Kentucky Wesleyan is putting it on and tickets are expected to go quickly.
