EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
Some local non-profits received an early Christmas gift Wednesday afternoon from the City of Evansville Endowment Fund.
The group handed out more than $190,000 in grants to 15 Evansville organizations in need of some 'brick and mortar' projects, like air conditioning for Joshua Academy, security fencing for the Albion Fellows Bacon Center, and a new roof for the Christian Life Center. These projects are big ticket items that the groups normally can't afford with operating funds.
"By granting money for these projects, it frees up their money for what they normally do. What their focus would be," noted President of the CEEF Alan Groves.
Each organization has one year to complete their grant project.
The following is a list of the 15 chosen organizations:
AIDS Resource Group - $2,000 for lobby restoration
Ark Crisis Child Care Center - $10,000 to support the building expansion project
Albion Fellows Bacon Center - $14,882 for security fencing
Community One - $3,895 to support property acquisition for the housing rehab project
Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center - $20,000 for carpet and vinyl flooring replacement
Evansville ARC - $25,000 for replacement of HVAC system chilled water coils
Evansville Christian Life Center - $10,346 for roof replacement
Evansville Rescue Mission - $10,000 to support laundry room construction expenses for the new residence center
Joshua Academy - $20,000 for the purchase and installation of an air conditioning unit in the school auditorium
Koch Family Children's Museum of Evansville - $25,000 to perform tuckpointing on the building
Memorial Community Development Corporation - $10,000 for security upgrades for the health clinic and child care facility
Ozonam Family Shelter Corporation - $7,500 for the purchase and installation of a refrigeration unit
The Potter's Wheel - $19,923 for the purchase and installation of heating and air conditioning units for the diner, youth department, and clothing bank
United Caring Shelters - $6,255 for heating and cooling unit replacement
Visiting Nurse Association of Southwestern Indiana - $9,750 to support renovations at the Charlier Hospice Center
To date, Groves said that the organization, which gives grant money away on an annual basis, has award over $1 million.
