Name of pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle on I-64 released

Indiana State Police say they were called to the scene of a fatal accident I-64 in Warrick County.

Authorities have released the man's identity as 45-year-old Billy Haney of Lewisburg, West Virginia. Officials say that he was hitchhiking from St. Louis to West Virginia.

It happened around 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night in the eastbound lanes of I-64 near the 36 mile marker.

Deputies say when they arrived, they found Haney had been struck by a vehicle headed eastbound.

The Warrick County Coroner says Haney died at the scene. The driver was taken to Deaconess Hospital for evaluation.

"Anytime anybody dies it's tragic and this is just another tragic loss here in Warrick County this evening," said Eddie Goff, Warrick County Coroner. "I feel for the families and I feel for anybody that's been touched by this, this evening and we're gonna find out what happened."

The accident remains under investigation.
