NEWBURGH, IN (WFIE) -
For many businesses destroyed during the Sharon Place fire over the weekend, the holiday season is when they see their biggest revenue.
Over the weekend, business owners were picking up what they could from the rubble, but as soon as a new week rolled around, the entrepreneurial spirit kicked in.
"I missed out on a huge part of my season," Mike Kishline said, the owner of Rug Gallery of Newburgh.
For Kishline, owner of the Rug Gallery of Newburgh, December was set to be a banner month and an overall great year.
Kishline had his store front for about two years at Sharon Place and he was up 92 percent over last year.
Although he doesn't have those same expectations after the fire, he isn't sitting idle.
"I'm as such pre-selling some pieces that I've got coming in," Kishline said.
On Tuesday, Kishline took pictures of some of the only handmade rugs left on display at another local business. Nance Galleries in Evansville.
As a small business, he says they all support each other and hope to re-open soon.
"These are my babies and I love each and everyone of them," Kishline said.
Culinary Solutions a catering company had just opened six months ago at Sharon Place. The two sisters who own it say they were just building their clientele.
"We got started because we would always take something to a baby shower, or bridal luncheon, and all of our friends from our food taste and our presentation, our friends would say, 'you should open your own business. You girls should do this,'" owner Jennifer Inzerello said. "From there, a friend would get sick, we'd make a casserole, and a friend would say I would buy this. From there, we drew up a business plan and started Culinary Solutions."
The River Ridge Church will be meeting for service and bible study at their regular hours and have found a temporary space at Newburgh Elementary School just down the road on State Street.
With most of these businesses, the best way to contact them right now is through their Facebook pages.
