Police identify student who sent threats to Vincennes University

VINCENNES, IN (WFIE) -

A 24-year-old Vincennes University student has been identified as the person who sent a series of bomb threats to the university. 

Vincennes University Police name the suspect as Randal T. Nichols of Sullivan, Indiana.

They say Nichols sent a series of email bomb threats this semester to VU where he was a student.

Investigators say in a statement to University Police, Nichols admitted sending the emails.

"Vincennes University takes these kinds of threats seriously and responds to them with intensive investigation in the interest of protecting the University community.  I want to thank the University Police Department and assisting agencies that helped solve this case," said VU President Dick Helton.

This case, they tell 14 News, has now been referred to the Knox County Prosecutor's Office. No charges have been filed by federal authorities.
