LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Louisville Metro Police are still investigating the death of a WKU student who was shot early Sunday morning in Louisville.

Cheryl Williamson, 24, of Louisville, died at University Hospital after she was shot once in the torso, according to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.

A MetroSafe dispatcher said LMPD was called to Fifth and Market Streets at 3:44 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers dispersed a large crowd leaving a party at the Gillespie Building at 421 W. Market Street, but they did not locate a victim.

About 15 minutes later, Williamson arrived at University Hospital after getting into someone's car. She died during surgery.

Community activist Christopher 2X said Williamson was home from Western Kentucky University where she was a student. While attending a Thanksgiving party at the Gillespie Building, 2X said Williamson became involved in an altercation with two men, and one of them pulled out a handgun and shot her.

Friends say Williamson was a fun loving young woman. She was getting ready to graduate from Western and had dreams of working in fashion after graduation.

WAVE 3 has learned that the party at the Gillespie was hosted by Dream Team Entertainment.

WKU is offering counseling services to students who were impacted by Williamson's death.

Police do not have any suspects in custody. If you have any information call (502) 574-LMPD.
