A woman out jogging on Thanksgiving eve is attacked in Legion Park in Owensboro. Thursday night, the manhunt continues to find who did this.
Owensboro Police say the victim of last night's attack escaped, unharmed, but that the suspect is still on the loose.
At about 6:15 Wednesday night, police say a woman was jogging through the park, when she was suddenly attacked.
"An unknown male came up behind her and pushed her to the ground and inappropriately started to touch her," said Michael Hathaway with Owensboro Police.
Police say the suspect began to sexually abuse the woman, but moments later, the suspect ran away as other joggers in the area approached the two.
"The witnesses state that the subject was a white male about 5' 7", 160 lbs," Hathaway noted. "And he was wearing a black stocking cap with a yellow ball on top, a gray t-shirt, and black shorts. And he left the scene on foot, from what the witnesses observed, east."
Owensboro residents we spoke to Thursday say this park is generally safe. Police say this is an isolated incident.
"I'm very shocked, because I feel like it's a pretty safe park and there's always kids around," said Owensboro resident Lexie McDuffee. "I brought my four-year-old here yesterday. So, it's very surprising that someone is out doing that. I'm just thankful that she was able to get away from him."
OPD says anyone with information in this case should contact law enforcement, as soon as possible.
