Fire officials in Owensboro have posted some holiday cooking safety tips to help you get ready for your Thanksgiving meal and guests.
To avoid a call to the fire department, the Owensboro Fire Department has listed some holiday cooking safety tips on its Facebook page just for you.
Here's just a few to keep in mind when cooking your holiday meals.
When you're cooking or food's in the oven, make sure you actually stay home.
If something's on the stovetop, it's important to stay in the kitchen to watch it if you can.
Thanksgiving might be a time when there's lots of children at a house, so make sure you keep them away from hot foods and liquids.
Keep knives out of their reach and keep them away from the stove, too.
This is a good reminder for guests of any age...check to make sure the floor's clear, so no one trips or slips.
Preparing for big holiday meals is also a good time to check your smoke detectors to make sure they're working, too.
The list also notes that Thanksgiving is the one day out of the year for the most home fires that involve cooking equipment, so keep these in mind during your preparations.
