OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

The Salvation Army in Owensboro is working to make sure area families have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Volunteers were hard at work yesterday packing food boxes, and today, those boxes are going out to families.

According to Salvation Army officials, more than 100 food boxes will be distributed to the community today.

Local volunteers and Salvation Army Advisory Board members packed the food items and got the boxes ready for today's distribution.

Later today, families will come to the Salvation Army here in Owensboro to pick up the boxes between 9 a.m. and noon and between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The families who will receive these boxes have already been chosen and notified and what's available will only be given out to families that have signed up for this specific program.

This is just a small part of what the Salvation Army does to make sure that all families have a special holiday season, even if they may not be able to afford it.

If you'd like to help work toward that goal, you can donate to one of the most familiar sights during the holidays...the organization's red kettles.
