A tree planting ceremony was held Monday by third grade students at Burns Elementary School in Daviess County.
The tree in the playground is in memory of classmate Blaine Jewell who died in a drowning accident over the summer.
"We did this to kind of let his classmates and us celebrate his time here at Burns Elementary," Dr. Amy Shutt said. Shutt is the principal at Burns Elementary.
"We felt like it was important that he had made bonds here with friends and with us. We wanted to celebrate that with his family and we wanted to plant the tree here so that our kids would have a remembrance of him," Shutt said.
Students chose to plant a fast growing Skyline Honey Locust tree.
