DAVIESS CO., IN (WFIE) -

An Odon man was taken to the hospital after a tree stand accident Saturday morning on the opening day of Indiana's deer firearms season.

Indiana Conservation Officers say that 36-year-old Philip L. Knepp had just climbed into a fixed position tree stand and when he heard something 'pop'. Officers say the stand gave way, and Knepp fell approximately 25 feet.

Investigating Officers found that the straps holding the stand to the tree had given way. Knepp was not using any type of safety harness at the time.

Authorities say Knepp was transported to Daviess Community Hospital for treatment of back injuries.

Indiana Conservation Officers want to remind everyone to check their equipment for damage and or wear before using it and to always use a fall restraint system such as a full body harness or vest system.
