Owensboro City Commission selected a new police chief on Tuesday.
This follows former Chief Colonel Glenn Skeens's retirement in September.
Currently, Art Ealum is Deputy Chief of OPD. Ealum holds a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice and he's been with the Owensboro Police Department for 22 years.
The city says they looked at applications from all over the country and found just the right person for the job within their own department.
"It's great. I look forward to the opportunity. It's great to start at an entry-level position and work your way all the way up through the ranks because it sends a message to future officers and current, you know, officers that they will have the opportunity to continue their career path and potentially be police chief sometime," Ealum said.
The city commission will make a formal appointment of the new chief at their next meeting on November 20.
