EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

It was a weekend dedicated to honoring and recognizing veterans, and one Marine Corps veteran received a distinguished honor.

Lance Corporal Daniel Fuller was named the Vanderburgh County Veteran of the Year.

He served in Vietnam in 1968 and more than 40 years later, he's still serving. Fuller helps local veterans transition back to civilian life after returning home from war.

He was humble about receiving the award, one among a long list of honors because he wants the focus to be on Sunday's veterans.

"It's a great honor, but it's something I believe in, helping our veterans. I want to thank all our veterans, those that are living and those who have passed for their service," Fuller said.

Lance Corporal Fuller also received the Eisenhower Award in 2006 and a Silver Rose from the people of the United States.

All overwhelming honors, he says.
