Number of events planned for Veterans Day

A number of events are planned this weekend to celebrate the Veterans Day holiday.

Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park will host a "Salute Our Veterans Day" Saturday November 10, in honor of all veterans.

This program is free for all to attend. The park invites veterans to come and tell their stories and bring their memorabilia. Mike Freeland, a World War II veteran, will be on hand to begin the storytelling on Saturday and host the event.

Registration will be from 5-6 p.m. in the lodge lobby. There will be a meet and greet from 6-6:30 p.m. in the meeting room. "Experience of War Stories" will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the meeting room.

The restaurant will be open and there will be special lodging rates available. Call the park at 1-800-325-1711.

The James D. Veatch Camp Breckinridge Museum & Arts Center will be represented at the Point Man International Ministries presentation of "Freedom Isn't Free-A tribute to all Veterans & Families."

The event is also set for Saturday, November 10 from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. the Crossroads Christian Church, 10800 Outer Lincoln Avenue in Newburgh.

Camp Breckinridge Museum Manager Vicki Ricketts and assistant Liz Freer will bring museum artifacts to the event along with a pull-up banner depicting the museum.

Included in the day's activities is an appearance by noted Veteran author Chuck Dean; patriotic choral music; a workshop to provide aid to veterans; and recognition of all veterans.

The annual Veterans Day program will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, November 11 at the Veterans Monument on the front lawn of the Union County Courthouse.

In memory and honor of SPC Brandon Scott Mullins, who was killed in August last year and in honor of all of our veterans, the Mullins family is hosting a new, community wide event called "A Kentucky Hometown Veterans Day Celebration"  to be held this Sunday at 6pm at Good Shepherd Church.
