School lets out early due to "gas" smell in Evansville

Posted: Updated:

Update: St. Ben's Cathedral School will be letting out at 2:10 p.m. today due the smell.

Central dispatch is explaining that "gas" odor throughout the heart of Evansville.

It has been reported all the way from Diamond Avenue to Covert Avenue, mostly along Hwy 41.

We're told it can be traced back to J Trockman & Sons, a recycling plant on 1017 Bayse St.

They were, reportedly, crushing a container for disposal that had contained the chemical that adds the odor to natural gas.

We're told it could take up to two hours for the odor to dissipate.
