Bits and pieces of Roberts Stadium continue to be torn down and hauled away.
Thursday, the big marquee along the Lloyd was one of them. That big sign was a landmark of sorts for drivers along the expressway.
Now, it's just a heap of metal that will be sold as scrap.
Around 2:00 p.m. Thursday, a group from Martinsville, Indiana who won the sign at the auction back in August got out there with a bulldozer, and then a blow torch, to get it down.
A few others were there taking out glass blocks out from the walls.
Doors have been taken off. Slowly, Roberts Stadium is going away, piece by piece.
"We bought the boilers, we bought the chiller," said Carl Lafary, who was scrapping items from Roberts Stadium "Bought the electrical room. We bought the electrical panels out of the electrical room and some miscellaneous odds and ends things."
We haven't heard the exact date for the stadium itself to come down, but it doesn't seem like it will be long now.
