Dara, the fantastic job shadow!

Wooh!!  Back to semi-normal here today after the Election Extravaganza!  I've gotta say, I'm still POOPED!!  Hoping to get lots of rest tonight and get back to normal by tomorrow!

Today was a little bit different because I had a high school student job shadowing me.  Her name is Dara Ricketts.  Dara is a senior at Memorial (Student Council President and highly involved in theater) and has an extremely bright future ahead of her!  She not only impressed me, but also the people we interviewed in the field today.

Today, Dara and I went on a trip to the Civic Center and Courts Building for an election wrap-up story and then to a couple of Fire Houses as we talked about renovations and upgrades going on.

Dara was able to come today through a program with the Optimist Club.  Everything must come full circle, because not THAT long ago—I was doing the same thing.  I did my job shadow back at the old Fox 7.  That experience in an actual newsroom is so important, I think, for young people.  What you learn in school will only take you so far in the television industry.  So much of it (like many jobs) is about the hands-on experience.  Hoping Miss Dara had a good time today and was able to learn something:)

Have a great evening, everyone!

Until next time,
