USI Men open up season Saturday

The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team tips off the 2012-13 regular season and a five-game homestand Saturday when it hosts Kentucky State University at the Physical Activities Center. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Screaming Eagles are hoping to take advantage of the lesson learned in the Vectren Community Classic loss to the University of Evansville. USI had several highlights despite the final score with senior center Keith DeWitt (High Point, North Carolina) leading the way with 18 points in his Eagle debut.
Entering Saturday's contest, the Eagles have won 26-straight season openers and have captured the last 28 home openers.
USI also starts the regular season ranked nationally for the 19th-time in the last 21 years. The Eagles are ranked 12th in the NABC/Division II Top 25 preseason poll and 17th in the Division II Bulletin preseason poll.
The Thorobreds of Kentucky State begin their 2012-13 regular season campaign Saturday after dropping an exhibition game at Xavier University, 74-53. Kentucky State was 12-14 overall in 2011-12 and was eighth in the SIAC with a 12-12 mark.
The Eagles lead the overall series with the Thorobreds, 15-3, and won the last meeting in the 1994-95 season, 105-63, when Kentucky State was a member of the GLVC. USI held a 10-2 advantage during Kentucky State's days in the same conference.
