HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

Former University of Kentucky President Lee Trover Todd visited schools on Monday in Muhlenberg and Hopkins Counties.

The 11th President of UK talked about careers in math and science, and the importance of a college degree.  Todd also talked to educators at Madisonville Community College about how to be innovative with their courses.

Todd, who grew up in Hopkins County, says he's impressed with the effort to encourage post secondary education.

"If we're going to compete in this world, we've got to have math and science. Kids from Hopkins County can do just as well as people from Shanghai or Singapore or any place else, and I just want to tell them that," Todd said.

Todd earned degrees in electrical engineering and studied at MIT. He's a native of Earlington.
