Daviess County Schools are honoring veterans with several special programs and events this week.
The gym at Sorgho Elementary School was decked out in its most patriotic attire for a special program honoring those who have served our country.
Veterans were treated to a day full of celebration and remembrance. The program agenda was packed with activities, including student speakers, group songs, and poems.
Students even distributed red poppies, which they made themselves, to veterans.
Many of the students participating in Monday's activities invited family members that are veterans to attend to show their personal appreciation.
Norman Moore was there to see his grandson take part in the special ceremony.
He says it's important that the students recognize the significance of veterans' contributions and appreciates programs like this.
"It's great. I'm glad to see the school wanting to do something for the veterans, cause they served their country and everything, went through a lot. I appreciate my grandson going here. He's just tickled to death," Moore said.
Veterans were treated to a special lunch after the morning activities.
