GREENVILLE, KY (WFIE) -

The City of Greenville, Kentucky got a national award for their downtown revitalization project which includes new sidewalks, new lighting, restoring downtown buildings, and the development of a nature park.

The award comes from the National Association of Development Organizations.

Local city officials say this is an honor, but more than anything, they're happy to improve the quality of life around town and they hope for even more economic growth.

"It is an opportunity to generate more interest in our community from those outside our community who might be looking for a place to bring in new business in and hopefully even industry," said Ben Van Hooser, the Greenville City Administrator.

City officials say the tourism commission has also played a big part in the city's success bringing new community events and concert series to the area.
