Director of controversial film to speak in Evansville

Posted: Updated:

On Monday, the Vanderburgh County Republican Party is hosting what it calls an Election Eve Extravaganza.

The keynote speaker is the director of a controversial film about President Obama.

The writer and director of the movie "2016: Obama's America" will speak at The Centre at 7:00 p.m.

The film is a documentary written and directed by Dinesha D'Souza. It's based upon his book "The Roots of Obama's Rage."

D'Souza says through the use of interviews and reenactments he presents his theory of how early influences on Obama's life are affecting the decisions he makes as president. The film that was released on DVD last month has gotten mixed reviews by critics.

But on Monday, those at The Centre will get to hear the process D'Souza went through in gathering his interviews and the research he gathered while talking to those who say they knew Obama when he was young.

The presentation gets underway at 7:00 p.m. at The Centre in downtown Evansville. We'll have more tonight on 14 News at 10.
