Another Henderson County mine is set to close down by the end of the year.
It's devastating news for employees who told 14 News they've already had enough hardship following the recent closing of the Freedom Underground Coal Mine.
Patriot Coal Corporation says it plans to close the Bluegrass Mine Complex near Hebbardsville leaving 89 workers without a job.
Community members say they had a feeling the surface mine would be closing in the near future. just not this soon with the holidays right around the corner.
"It's a bad deal that they lost their job, taking a lot away from the economy. When they were over here, it was quite a shock. You could feel the blasting and all everyday," said Danny Alderson, who lives near the Cash Creek mine.
Some community members say they're happy to see the mines go because of the traffic and constant noise, but feel bad for employees and fear the economic impact soon to follow.
