Going once...going twice...sold!

There are hundreds of auctioneers in New Harmony this weekend for the Annual Indiana Auctioneers Association Conference. It's the first visit by the group to New Harmony.

Auctioneers are known for their fast talking and there's a reason behind it.

"It's fast. It's efficient," said John Beechy. "The auction method of marketing really is the best way to get top dollar for your product."

The Indiana Auctioneer's Conference brings together some of the best auctioneers in the state.

President of the association and auctioneer, Andrew Wilson says these seminars are very important today because a lot of selling is done online, changing the entire auction industry.

"The education they can get and the collaboration they have the opportunity to have while they're here enables them to go back to their businesses then and employ those things and grow their businesses," said Wilson.

There are many events planned for the conference, including the Indiana Champion Auctioneer Contest.

"They will compete," said Wilson. "They'll have the opportunity to sell some items and ultimately one of them will be crowned the champion, the Indiana champion auctioneer."

Wilson, whose business is based in New Harmony, says this is an ideal location for the conference.

"New Harmony is a retreat and conference center," he said. "We have the facilities here.we have the ability. There's a lot of history here. Auction is prevalent here so we couldn't think of a better place to have it."

You can go watch the auctioneers compete Friday night at 6 at the New Harmony Inn.

The public is welcome.

The conference will be held in Bloomington, Indiana next year.
