Indiana State Police have arrested Evansville resident, John Ulrich. The treasurer of the Erie Canal Beagle Club is charged with theft. Members of the club say he stole more than sixty-thousand dollars.

Members say they've known John for a long time and considered him a friend that they could trust. But that all changed in March, when members noticed funds missing from the club's checking account.

"Had to work real hard to get the money, some of these members have been there 20 odd years and they've worked hard and we have a nice clubhouse and property up there and he hadn't paid the property taxes and we were behind on property taxes and we were getting where they might even take our building at one time there,"Beagle Club Vice President Chester Miskimen said.

Club members say John admitted to stealing  more than thirteen-thousand dollars when they confronted him earlier this year.

However, the club decided to contact Indiana state police when they realized they had been missing funds for more than five years, when john initially took office...as treasurer.
