Tampered Treats Warning

Mooresville, Ind -

Authorities are warning parents to examine their children's Halloween treats for tampering after two incidents in central Indiana.

The Mooresville School District posted a statement on its Facebook page Thursday warning parents to look for suspicious items after the Morgan County Sheriff's Department reported a needle was found in a candy bar before it was eaten.

The Republic reports a 5-year-old boy found a heavy metal staple in a piece of candy in what Columbus police are treating as an act of intentional tampering.

The child's mother told officers the boy was eating a candy roll when he discovered the staple. The boy did not swallow the object and wasn't injured.
