A woman accused of scamming people in two counties was sentenced Wednesday in Vanderburgh County.

Katherine Conapinski was sentenced to probation, house arrest, and community service in August in Warrick County on theft and fraud charges after pocketing money she raised for a young cancer patient in Newburgh.

The sentencing meant a lot to one Vanderburgh County couple who says their small businesses suffered greatly because Katherine Conapinskis'.

Wednesday morning, Conapinski was sentenced on a D felony for check fraud after writing checks to the "Little Shopper and More" coupon book from a bank account that didn't exist.

Conapinski was sentenced to two weekends in jail, two years probation, and restitution.

Cristal Luckett, owner of the Little Shopper says she hired Conapinski as her first employee.

She says Conapinski pretended to sell ads for her coupon book which her business printed, but Luckett never collected any of the money to pay for the ads.

"Being dupped like that is unbelievable. I'm wanting to look past it. Did my business suffer some because of it, absolutely. We are just going to hope and pray that the Lord is going to be good about it and we are chugging away," Luckett said.

Luckett says Conapinksi also hired her husband's landscaping business to landscape a house that didn't belong to her, and also wrote a check from a false account. That check was also included in Wednesday's charges.
