TRI-STATE (WFIE) -

It's time for trick or treating in the Tri-State, but officials want to make sure parents review some safety tips with their little 'goblins.'

If you're headed out to knock on doors in costume tonight, here's some tips from law enforcement:

  • make sure your child carries a flashlight
  • younger children should be accompanied by an adult or older sibling.
  • instruct your children not to eat any treats until they have been checked by an adult.
  • make sure your child is able to see out of their mask properly
  • remind kids not to enter a strange house or car.

If scary isn't what you are looking for tonight, Bethel Temple in Evansville is hosting a Trunk or Treat tonight which is one safe alternative to your traditional Trick or Treating.

Bethel Temple has been doing Trunk or Treat for 12 years. Kids come out to the Bethel parking lot in costume and collect candy from trunks of muscle cars.

Ever since the beginning, another favorite event of Trunk or Treat has been the locomotive. It's no toy. People of all ages can actually ride it!

Evansville residents Jim and Carol Turner operate it. Jim is the engineer and Carol is the conductor. Jim built the cars by hand. He's been working with old cars and trains for over 50 years.

The locomotive is a replica of the Louisville and Nashville train that used to run through Evansville. It precedes CSX.

The train is an SW1500 and runs on gasoline. It can hold 20-30 people at a time and makes three laps. No tickets are needed to ride.
