OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

Hospice of Western Kentucky broke ground Tuesday on a new facility for the Owensboro area.

The new center will have 12 beds and serve nearly 500 families a year. Families with loved ones in home care will be able to avoid hospital stays by placing their family member in this facility for a short term stay.

They say it is important to make the residents comfortable, and that's why they plan to give it a homey feel.

"A very serene quiet country atmosphere. It will be a very residential looking building and we're just thrilled about the property. We're right in town, but when you get on the property, you'll feel like you're five miles out in the country," said CEO Rod McFain.

The facility should be finished in about a year.
