Law enforcement agencies share strategies for investigating crimes

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

On Tuesday, dozens of federal and local law enforcement gathered in downtown Owensboro for a special training session.

Officials say a main focus was sharing strategies for investigating crimes involving children and crimes involving weapons.

About 90 officials from the US Attorney's Office, federal officials like the FBI, and state and local law enforcement gathered at Riverpark Center on Tuesday for that training.

The major discussions were about Project Safe Neighborhood and Project Safe Childhood strategies to combat sexual crimes against children and crimes performed with illegal weapons.
The US Attorney's Office says about a third of their practice deals with cases in those two categories and that's why they say law enforcement teamwork is so important.

"In today's budget environments, none of us can do it on our own. We have to partner up. That's just a practical reality," US Attorney David Hale said.

"I think that's valuable on all fronts, even from a small two-man department, all the way up to the FBI when we share these resources," said KSP Commissioner Rodney Brewer.

Officials say this event is held locally about once a year.
