Unsolved Murder: Clifton Jerome McGee

August 16, 1981

Ohio County, Kentucky

Clifton Jerome McGee, 57, had attended a National Rifle Association meet in Camp Perry, Ohio. He was returning to his home in Beaumont, Texas. Kentucky State Police were told McGee liked to drive back roads and often slept in his car when necessary.

On August 16, 1981, McGee apparently backed his car into an access road off U.S. 62 about a mile west of Rosine, Kentucky.

Police say he was apparently asleep when someone shot him to death.

Detectives believe the shooter fired through the left rear door glass with a .22 caliber weapon. McGee was shot three times in the head, once in the arm, and twice in the back. He was also apparently removed from his vehicle.

The vehicle was later found at another location wrecked.
