Aces men picked 5th in MVC, Ryan named All-Conference

University of Evansville senior Colt Ryan has been named to the Preseason All-Conference Team as the Missouri Valley Conference announced its preseason information today.

In the preseason poll, the Purple Aces were picked to finish in fifth place in the league.  Creighton received 38 out of the 40 first-place votes as they were picked to win the league, receiving 398 points.  Illinois State received two first-place votes and is picked to finish second with 327 points.

UNI was picked third with Wichita State being picked fourth.  Evansville, on the strength of 240 votes, took fifth in the poll.

Ryan finished just behind Doug McDermott of Creighton in the Preseason Player of the Year voting.  McDermott was picked as the Preseason Player of the Year while Ryan, Jackie Carmichael (Illinois State), Jake Odum (Indiana State) and Ben Simons (Drake) were also picked on the preseason team.

As the No. 11 scorer in the nation last season, Ryan averaged 20.5 points per game while being named a First Team All-Conference player while garnering Scholar Athlete of the Year honors.  Ryan is one of four seniors who are expected to make a large impact on this year's squad.

Along with him, fellow seniors Troy Taylor, Ned Cox and Lewis Jones will see significant playing time as UE looks to make the postseason for the fourth time in five seasons.  In the last two seasons, Evansville has participated in the College Basketball Invitational.

This weekend, the Aces will face Illinois-Springfield in their final preseason game.  On Saturday, the Aces grabbed an impressive 73-55 victory over USI in the Vectren Community Classic.  Colt Ryan tallied 33 points to lead all players.
