Some tenants at the Grandview Tower Apartments in Evansville are going out of their way to thank the American Red Cross for its help after that big fire at the complex two months ago.

One resident tells 14 News more than 50 people pitched in to raise over $160. That money was presented to the Red Cross.

It will be used to buy a brick that will be placed at their headquarters on Stockwell Road. It may not sound like a lot of money to some, but a donation organizer says many at Grandview Tower live paycheck to paycheck.

He says some spent several days at the Red Cross after the fire and are grateful for the help.

"I just think it was a small gesture of a great thing, great services they provide. They do a really good job jumping in there right now. I mean, they was quick to get here, quick with the water, getting everybody water bottles and things like that. We just wanted to give something back to them," said Artie McCormick who collected the money for the Red Cross.

Artie says it took about two months to raise the money.
