Lane restrictions that were supposed to start Wednesday on the southbound bridge have been delayed until Thursday.

Crews will actually lift one bridge to make their repairs.

Wednesday, crews were out doing some prep work on one of the southbound bridge's piers. Transportation officials say that's the reason for that delay.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet tells us Thursday, crews will be jacking up beams on the bridge to replace two rocker bearings.

The KYTC says one southbound lane will be closed Thursday, as crews replace those bearings on one of the bridges' piers. The KYTC says the current bearings are the original ones from when the bridge was constructed in 1965.

"They'll be jacking up the beams about a quarter of an inch or so, just enough that they can pull the old bearings that are in there out and put the new ones in," said KYTC PIO Keith Todd. "Engineering-wise, it's a pretty complicated project, but when it comes down to it, it's very simple. You pull the old ones out and you put the new ones in."

The KYTC says that southbound lane will be closed Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
