Two held on arson charges as more car fires are set

Posted: Updated:
TELL CITY, IN (WFIE) -

Someone's been setting vehicles on fire and Tell City Police want to find whoever's responsible before someone gets hurt.

The Tell City Police Department's Detective Alan Malone says two men have been arrested in connection to a string of car arsons, and that since their arrests, two more similar cases have come up.

Malone says Jeremy and Scott Kaufman are being held on arson charges. The two men are suspected in two car arson that happened a couple of months ago.

Since the two were arrested, more fires have been intentionally set in Tell City. Detective Malone says right now, they don't know how or why people are torching cars.

"Whether they're using accelerant or just lighting something on fire and throwing it in, that's still under investigation, but we're looking at both avenues right now. But it's still considered arson either way," Detective Malone said.

Detective Malone encourages anyone with information on these most recent cases of arson to contact Tell City Police.
