WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -

Court documents just sent to 14 News show more details about former Boonville Assistant Police Chief.

Terry Winkler is out on bond after turning himself in back in September. He's charged with theft. State police say he stole $21,000 from the Fraternal Order of Police.

The affidavit states that Winkler is facing 19 counts of theft, all of them felonies.

He's accused of executing electronic transfers from the officer's assistance fund of the Warrick County Fraternal Order of Police to his own checking account from anywhere from a $100 to more than $3,000.

That fund is used to assist a police officer with an illness or emergency, and relies on donations.

The alleged thefts happened between July of 2010 and April of last year. Winkler was the President of the Warrick FOP and Assistant Boonville Police Chief at the time.

14 News is told Winkler has resigned from the FOP and the Boonville Police Department. The affidavit states that Winkler has paid back more than $1,400.

A special prosecutor from Pike County is now handling the case.
