New online tool helps deputies track sex offenders

PERRY CO., IN (WFIE) -

The Perry County Sheriff's Office now has an online tool to track sex offenders in your area.

Deputies say they have an online tool to identify the location of sex offenders, and this tool could be invaluable with Halloween just around the corner.

The sheriff's office says they use a sex offender monitoring system called OffenderWatch.

Deputies say the system keeps a log of where and when registered sex offenders move, and they say it shows how many sex offenders live around any given location.

Deputies also say citizens can register as many locations as they want on OffenderWatch and receive email alerts whenever a sex offender moves near any of those locations.

Perry County Chief Deputy Daymion Marsh says parents may want to consult OffenderWatch before allowing their children to go Trick-or-Treating.

"You know, if you live in Perry County, and you plan on taking your kids to Evansville to go Trick-or-Treating at a family's residence, neighborhood, you can put in their address and search for offenders in that neighborhood as well," Marsh said.
