Holiday World announces new water-slide complex

SANTA CLAUS, IN (WFIE) - Some exciting announcements coming out of Santa Claus Tuesday morning.

The folks at Holiday World and Splashin' Safari have just announced plans for 2013, which include a new complex with four in-the-dark water slides, called the RhinoBlaster.

Dan Koch, the park president says, "The longest slide is 350 feet and includes a half-pipe element- similar to our Zinga water ride – for a really cool back-and-forth skate-boarding effect."

Koch says the park is making a $6.5 million investment which provides everything from the new water-slide complex to added misters throughout both parks.

He also announced the popular Pilgrims Plunge will become part of the water park and be renamed Giraffica.

"We're not moving the ride, just the park boundary," says Koch. "Splashin' Safari's entrance will also be expanded and we're adding a new style of lockers. This is part of our ongoing effort to improve our guests' experience here at the park."

In the park, a classic teacup ride based around the new Kitty Claws mascot will be added to Holidog's Funtown.

"Kitty's Tea Party. That thing spins three different ways. It's the classic tea cup ride," Koch says.

In addition to the new ride, park officials are announcing several other projects for 2013 which include the expansion of Happy Halloween Weekends to six weekends, an after-dark light show in the summer, 20 extra cabanas, misters and fans throughout both parks as well as additional shade and seating.

Holiday World will be open October 27 and 28 for the final weekend of Happy Halloween Weekends.
