EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

An Evansville patient battling lymphoma and diabetes received some unexpected correspondence from the White House.

56-year-old Michael Weir says President Obama and First Lady Michelle sent him one letter wishing him well and a second wishing him a Happy Birthday.

Weir says both contained photos of the First Family. He doesn't know how the president knew it was his birthday or he was sick.

"Through the years, I have written presidents like President Clinton and I got a signed letter from him. But this here blew me away, because, you know, I voted for him. But, you know, I voted for him, but I mean, that's it," Weir said.

Weir says he is very grateful to whoever is responsible for those presidential messages.
