Program that place homeless families into homes back up and running

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Aurora, the homeless advocacy group in Evansville, says it's Rapid Rehousing Program is up and running again.

The program, which helps place homeless families into permanent housing, was halted a few months ago, when stimulus money ran out.  Thanks to a combined $500,000 grant from the city and state, it's back in business.

"We take referrals from all of the existing homeless shelters. They make referrals to this program and then we determine eligibility based on some income guidelines, and the individual's ability to get back on their feet in a fairly short amount of time. The Rapid Rehousing Program is a very short term program," Aurora Executive Director Luzada Hayes.

The funds will be used to help provide financial assistance such as help with utility bills and short term rental assistance to eligible clients.
