Election Day is just two weeks away, and it has become tradition for local candidates to speak to students at Central High School's Candidate's Day.
With this being a Presidential election year, organizers say it's especially important to expose students to local issues and offices.
"It's a great day for students to meet a lot of the local political office holders and candidates," said social studies teacher, Jeff Johnson.
Central High Students had the chance to meet 25 candidates for local and state office Monday morning.
Johnson says in a Presidential election year, that's especially important.
"Sometimes we forget that there are other offices out there, that there are other people running for very important offices. One could make the case that they probably influence our daily lives perhaps more than the President does," Johnson said.
One popular talking point among candidates Monday morning was the rising cost of college.
"For students like yourselves, we know that the cost for college is continuing to rise. We're working on that issue trying to find solutions," said Republican Larry Bucshon from Congressional District 8.
"I hope to be able to remind them that I'm on the side that hopes to expand PELL grants not cut PELL grants," said Democrat Dave Crooks from Congressional District 8.
Junior Emily Walden says she came away with a lot from this year's forum.
"I felt like I learned a lot more from their position, what they actually do, and where they stand on the issues," Walden said.
Central High School has hosted a Candidates Day for 31 years now.
