EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Staff, Board and Volunteers from Wesselman Nature Society and ALCOA will be formally dedicating the ALCOA Raptor Wing at Wesselman Woods Nature Center.  Construction on this state-of-the art facility was completed earlier this year.

The ALCOA Raptor Wing is home to the nine birds of prey (a red tailed hawk, a red shouldered hawk, an American Kestrel, a turkey vulture, a screech owl, a barn owl, a great horned owl and two barred owls)  that are animal ambassadors for Wesselman Woods Nature Center's programs, which are held on site and throughout the region.

The ALCOA Raptor Wing also includes animal care and management room and space to exercise the birds.  The facility was made possible by a generous grant from ALCOA and has significantly improved the quality of life for the birds and made caring for and training the birds easier for staff and volunteers.
