HENDERSON, KY (WFIE) -

A man helping an off-duty officer is nearly hit by a drunk driver on the side of the road.

The Henderson County Sheriff's Office says it happened around 4:30 this morning.  An off duty officer went to check on a Cadillac stuck in a ditch on US 41-Alternate and collier Road.

Another person stopped to help the off duty officer.

That's when they say 21-year-old Dakota Paul struck the Cadillac and another vehicle.

The off-duty officer pushed the good samaritan from the path of the oncoming vehicle, saving him from injury.

Paul is being held at the Henderson County Jail.
