'Spirits' to fill town of Newburgh for annual Ghost Walks

Posted: Updated:
NEWBURGH, IN (WFIE) -

Ghosts of Newburgh will be haunting the streets this weekend for the town's annual Ghost Walks.

The tours on Water and State streets will introduce you to many ghosts who want to tell you their story, but we're told don't be scared.

The stories aren't as spooky as they are historical, taking you back to the days of the Civil War and underground railroad.

You'll meet Louis Hulvershorn, who haunts above the town barber shop, where he was once the town cabinet maker.

"I would be called upon to make a different type of cabinet, in other words a coffin," He told 14 News. "There are things that go bump in the night here in Newburgh. And so I became the unofficial undertaker of the town of Newburgh."

The Ghost Walks start Friday and run through Sunday evening.

If you are looking for something a little scarier, story tellers will be sharing the legends of Newburgh on Saturday evening at town hall.
